Mercedes-Benz is planning to introduce the brand new generation C-Class in early 2014, specifically in January at the NAIAS Detroit. The medium-sized family of models is an all-so important growth engine for the German brand, so the new 205 series has been carefully developed for more than four years both inside and outside the labs.
The main center for the production of the new C-Class will remain headquartered at Bremen, Germany, with several facilities being added to the integrated network. The most important of those new locations is the Alabama-based plant situated in Tuscaloosa, where Mercedes-Benz is currently assembling the R-Class, M-Class and GL-Class.
As previously commented here, the C-Class Limousine, which is also the first model of the new series to be premiered next year, will sport a dramatically similar design with the new S-Class. The whole package looks more mature and classic in the Mercedes-Benz interpretation of the terms. The profile, though hidden by some camouflage sheets, reveals a clean architecture, with just a few character lines and the key dropping line. While the front end seems to be more visually unique throughout the different grilles depending on the version, the rear end clearly screams S-Class.
The new C-Class will also be lighter in terms of kerb weight, due to extensive use of composite metals and low-weight alloys. The new MRA chassis will also become more flexible and modular for various means of powering, in addition to ensuring the highest level of comfort and also superior dynamics. All in all, the W 205 model will grow in length by up to 10 centimeters compared to the outgoing generation, which means 4.70 meters approximately.
More outside is also more inside, as the passengers should also expect an extended and more comfortable space. The new C-Class Limousine will feature only premium materials and an functionally improved architecture for the seating facilities and the dashboard. The latest assistance systems will guide the driver in the traffic in complete safety, while the telematics will ensure he/she stays connected all the time with the virtual world.
The Intelligent Drive portfolio of safety solutions will be borrowed from the new S-Class. In addition, the Head Up Display and COMAND Online with Touchpad will be available for the first time as options on a C-Class. Nonetheless, the Burmester hi-fi audio system could also be offered as an exquisite equipment for the range-topping models.
